WB to Shelve Superman, Focus More on Supergirl Movie

Superman had admittedly launched the DCEU with Man of Steel, but after a slew of divisive films, WB has opted to hold back on making any more films with him. In fact, it looks like they've benched Superman, for now, to focus on his cousin Kara.

This news comes from Forbes' Mark Hughes who writes:

Superman has been shelved for now, as a temporary measure to let Supergirl step into the limelight and carry the Kryptonian banner for a little while on the big screen, as the worlds of DC continue to evolve and solidify a path forward.

This may come as a bummer for Man of Steel fans, but until the franchise gets back on its feet officially, the best choice may be to keep Superman in the dark for a while. After all, it seems like Henry Cavill is still very open to reprising the character—it's just a case of the studio not having any projects for him in the meantime.

For now, we have no idea when to expect Supergirl. There was said to be a teaser of Kara being in the Kryptonian ship in Man of Steel, but it's still likely that they will find a different origin for her. What if the movie actually starts during a scene in Man of Steel where Clark activates the ship and Kara gets out of the pod before he finds her? That would be a neat callback.

Maybe they can even have the movie with Superman acting as Supergirl's guide. It's not a Superman movie, but it's close enough.

No release date has been set for Supergirl.
