There's no denying that Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck have gained a cult following for their respective portrayals of Superman and Batman but their time in the DC Extended Universe was nothing short of disastrous, to say the least. Despite the fact that the fandom is behind the duo, it turns out that Warner Bros. has been meaning to remove them from the franchise as early as 2017.
According to the same report from Rolling Stone alleging the Snyder Cut movement of being a bot-driven campaign, Warner Bros. wasn't pleased with the theatrical cut of Justice League underperforming at the box office. To be fair, the 2017 film earned $657 million at the global box office but that just wasn't enough to impress the studio.
Instead of putting the blame on Joss Whedon who pretty much added his own flair to the film, WB reportedly thought about removing Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck from the equation and recasting new Superman and Batman actors. Interestingly, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher weren't part of the recast plans.

Well, even though WB's initial plans didn't come to fruition, their master plan still proved to have succeeded in the end as Affleck is officially ending his Batman tenure after The Flash. Meanwhile, Cavill's DCEU future still remains uncertain and despite rumors that he'll be making an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con to share some Superman news, it doesn't exactly guarantee that things are going to get better for the franchise as a whole.
