WB Casts Pitch Perfect 2 Star In James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad

It looks like work on James Gunn's Suicide Squad sequel is coming along pretty nicely.

While there hasn't been that much major news about the project, Deadline has just learned that Pitch Perfect 2 actor Flula Borg has been asked to board the Guardians of the Galaxy director's new DC project.

Though the Pitch Perfect star's role in The Suicide Squad has yet to be revealed, the report says that Borg is going to play the part of "a love interest" to an unnamed character in the film. While we don't really feel like this unnamed character would end up being Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), we can't really rule out that possibility yet.

What we do know for sure is that Borg will be joining Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman as well as DC newcomers like Idris Elba, Daniel Melchior, and David Dastmalchian.

While Warner Brothers hasn't been making any major announcements about The Suicide Squad, Gunn has been making a lot of subtle teases on social media. For the past few days, the filmmaker has been taking to Twitter sharing images of the crew's downtime on set, and a few of the images tease the appearance of Harley Quinn and King Shark.

We're definitely excited to see what Gunn can do for The Suicide Squad. While the original film by David Ayer did a decent job at the box office, the movie was heavily criticized by fans and critics alike. Seeing how Gunn was able to turn an obscure Marvel team into one of the most well-loved cosmic characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we have no doubts that Gunn can do so much more for The Suicide Squad.

The Suicide Squad premieres on August 6, 2021.
