Watchmen Showrunner Damon Lindelof Doesn’t Want To Work On Season 2

HBO's new Watchmen series might be enjoying critical success, however it seems like showrunner Damon Lindelof is hesitant to return if the network renews the superhero drama for a second season.

Speaking in an interview with The AV Club, Lindelof talks about his live-action adaptation of Alan Moore's Watchmen comics. Serving as a sequel and a new story to the critically-acclaimed superhero comic maxiseries, Lindelof's new show premiered last weekend to rave reviews from critics and major television ratings. Seeing its success, we can only imagine HBO greenlighting the series for a second season. However, Lindelof isn't interested in a new batch of episodes because he's already given everything he has with season 1 of the series.

"[It's] not my story, right? I appropriated it," the showrunner explains in his interview with the publication, "And so the idea that someone else could come along and do another season of Watchmen, that's really exciting to me, too. I would watch the fuck out of that. These nine episodes are sort of everything that I have to say at this point about Watchmen, and then we'll kind of go from there."

It might sound disappointing to hear Lindelof refusing a new batch of episodes for the series, but it would also be interesting to see a new showrunner's take on the project. The filmmaker did previously say that he'd like to see someone like Black Panther director Ryan Coogler continue the Watchmen series.
