Watchmen fans might be clamoring for another batch of episodes from Damon Lindelof, but the showrunner says he doesn't have any ideas left for another season of the comic book series.
Speaking in an interview with Collider to address the demand for a second season of HBO's live-action sequel to Alan Moore's award-winning graphic novel series, Lindelof reiterated what he's been saying time and time again – he's already told the story he wanted to tell in the first season of Watchmen.
Though the Watchmen series creator would want to work on a second batch of episodes, he just doesn't have ideas left for season 2.
"I wish that I had an idea for Watchmen Season 2, and I really wish that there is going to be a Watchmen Season 2; I just – we put it all on the field for Season 1. And every great idea we had, I was like, what if we just put that in Season 1 versus, ‘Oh, let's stick it away for later.' And so, could there be a second season of Watchmen? I personally hope that there is but I don't think it should exist just because people liked the first season," Lindelof told the entertainment news outlet.
DC fans shouldn't be surprised. From day one of Watchmen, Lindelof has been pretty straightforward about keeping the series to only one batch of episodes. Fans might be clamoring for more, but Lindelof didn't really plan to work on a second season of the live-action series – though the showrunner doesn't really mind if HBO tries to cook up another batch with a different executive producer.
Of course, we understand the clamor for a second season of Watchmen. The series was lauded by fans and by critics for its cultural context and for the complexity of its storytelling. It's such a shame that Lindelof really doesn't have any plans to move forward with another batch of episodes.
