Watch Promo for Pokemon GO Fest Directed by Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson

With productions still on hold for now, a lot of directors are finding themselves out of work. What's interesting though is that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has found a way to direct this new Pokemon GO Fest commercial remotely.

We're excited to debut a special commercial in celebration of this year's global Pokémon GO Fest and the joy of being alongside Pokémon in the real world.

With Johnson being considered as one of the best modern filmmakers today, it's kind of weird to realize that he's actually a Pokemon fan. Johnson had said in a blog post (via THR), "Pokémon Go has kept me engaged with my friends remotely as I've been practicing physical distancing these past few months… As a longtime Pokémon trainer, it was a real pleasure working with Niantic on this spot."

Like I said, Johnson had directed the commercial remotely from LA while the cast and crew had shot the thing in New Zealand. Personally, I think it's a simple enough spot with not that much creative flare on it, and despite advertising a festival of sorts, you can see that everyone in the commercial is just at home or in places that aren't too crowded.

Pokemon GO Fest takes place over two days starting July 25 and ending on the 26th.
