WarnerMedia Chief Wonders How Many Disney+ Subscribers Will Stay After 6 Months

Disney might have drawn in more than 10 million Disney+ subscribers during the first day the site was launched, but WarnerMedia chief John Stankey wonders just how long these subscribers will last on the site.

Speaking in an interview with Variety, WarnerMedia executive John Stankey was asked to comment on Disney's newly launched streaming site. While Stankey congratulates the Mickey Mouse House for its success saying that Disney+ is off to a good start, the executive turns a colder route when he openly wonders whether the 10 million subscribers would keep together with the site for six months.

"The bigger trick here for most of these streaming services is how many of those 10 million customers are there in 6 months?" Stankey added after congratulating Disney.

WarnerMedia is currently working on its own streaming site for HBO called HBO Max. The streaming platform is set to launch next May, and when it does launch, HBO Max is going to carry the hefty price of $14.99. Compared to the prices offered by Netflix and by Disney, HBO Max is definitely one of the more expensive subscriptions in the market. Luckily, for those who want to save more on HBO Max, Warner Media is planning to introduce a more affordable ad-supported version of the streaming site in May 2021.

Of course, while WarnerMedia makes jabs at Disney+, some may wonder what kind of success HBO Max might achieve when it launches next year.

Disney+ is live online. HBO Max is set to launch May, 2020.
