In case you missed it, there have been speculations that the late Joel Schumacher actually has an extended cut of his films Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. Not surprisingly, this has led to demands that Warner Bros. should release the Schumacher Cut of both movies. However, the studio has just shut down the rumors by stating that there are no plans to release it.
Several sources from Warner Bros. have told Variety that Schumacher did have a lengthier version of Batman Forever. It was even revealed that the extended cut has a different opening sequence and several deleted scenes.
"This version opens with a sequence involving the villain Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) escaping from Arkham Asylum, and features extended scenes with the Riddler (Jim Carrey) when he invades the Batcave and uses his signature cane as a weapon," the report reads.
Sounds interesting? Unfortunately, we may never get to see this. According to a tweet from Marc Bernardin, Warner Bros. has no plans to release the extended cut since they are "unsure if there's any hunger for what was described to me as a ‘much darker, more serious' version of the film." Sadly, Variety confirms that the studio hasn't changed their mind since then.
This is unfortunate to hear but fans are hoping that the studio will eventually change their mind if the upcoming release of Zack Snyder's Justice League director's cut will be successful. In the meantime, we're keeping our fingers crossed on the possibility.
