If there was any doubt that the DC Extended Universe is set to undergo drastic changes in the coming months, the departure of DC Films President Walter Hamada is more than enough proof that Warner Bros. Discovery is ready to usher in a new era for the franchise which is set to celebrate its 10th year in 2023.

Hamada has had a rough relationship with the DC fandom since stepping in as DC Films chief in 2018 and is often regarded as the person responsible for destroying the franchise.

Whether it be his defiance against the Snyder Cut movement or his rejection of Henry Cavill's Superman return as revealed by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson himself, it's no secret that the executive hasn't always been in touch with the fandom.

It turns out that Walter also wanted to prevent the creation of a certain DC project that ended up being one of the best films the franchise has put out in recent memory.

According to Twitter page @MoviesThatMatter, Hamada tried to stop Joker from happening but obviously to no avail. The said rumor was even reposted by the oftentimes reliable MyTimeToShineHello which brings some credibility to the scoop but still, take it with a grain of salt.

It's worth noting that Hamada wanted the DC film franchise to be one cohesive universe so it's understandable how he wanted to "prevent" Joker, a film set in the elseworld universe from happening. But considering how the film generated huge profit for DC Films and even bagged two Academy Awards for the franchise, it would have been a questionable decision on his part.

Meanwhile, Joker: Folie à Deux is currently scheduled for release on October 4, 2024.
