A Playthrough of a Certain Dude’s VRMMO Life is an upcoming anime by Maho Film, the studio behind shows such as I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss and By the Grace of the Gods.

As its title implies, this anime follows a man who plays a popular VRMMO game, though it’s a more chill and lighthearted entry into the genre.

Even though it’s not a particularly unique series, the show does have an impressive voice cast that’s filled with lots of popular voice actors, including:

  • Kaito Ishikawa (Tobio Kageyama in Haikyu!!) as Earth
  • Daisuke Namikawa (Hisoka Morow in Hunter x Hunter) as Taichi Tanaka
  • Reina Ueda (Kanao Tsuyuri in Demon Slayer) as Fairy Queen
  • Tasuku Hatanaka (Denki Kaminari in My Hero Academia) as Zwei
  • Miho Okasaki (Rimuru Tempest in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) as Milly
  • Shiori Izawa (Nanachi in Made in Abyss) as Ryu-chan
  • Chitose Morinaga (Umiko Ahagon in New Game!) as Pikasha
  • Ayaka Asai (Angelo Lagusa in 91 Days) as Nora
  • Taro Kiuchi (Dante in The Case Study of Vanitas) as Reiji
  • Yusuke Shirai (Shuumei Sasaki in Sasaki and Miyano) as Kazamine
  • Naomi Ozora (Hana Uzaki in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!) as Rona

Interestingly, this series has been ongoing for quite some time now as it started as a web novel back in 2013. It got a proper light novel release and a manga adaptation in 2014.

It may have taken nearly a decade, but this VRMMO series is finally getting an anime, and you can get a sense of what to expect in the new trailer here:

The trailer also previews the show’s opening theme, Magic Writer, by saji, as well as its ending song, Kibō no Recipe (Recipe of Hope in English) by Miho Okasaki.

A Playthrough of a Certain Dude’s VRMMO Life will be released on October 2, 2023. There’s no word yet on where it will be streamed in the US and other regions outside Japan.
