It's hard to think of Joo-hyuk being part of an action series. But if he does a good job in this series, it will take his career to new heights.
What is Vigilante K-Drama About?
Vigilante is a K-Drama series on Disney+ that was adapted from a popular webtoon of the same title.
In the series, Joo-hyuk plays Kim Ji-yong, a police academy student who is on the top of his class. On weekends, however, he turns into a hooded vigilante at night to protect innocent people from criminals.
Think of it as Batman but without the stature and fancy toys. Ji-yong relies on his martial arts training to enact revenge on the undeserving. After all, his own mother was once a victim of these men. And since the judicial system failed to protect its own citizens, it is up to him to punish them.
Is There Romance in Vigilante?
Considering Joo-hyuk's history of starring in light-hearted and romantic Kdramas, many can't help but wonder if Joo-hyuk will meet a special woman in the series. Although that's not an impossible scenario, the show does not explicitly explore the potential of romance for Ji-yong.
In fact, Vigilante is known as one of the darkest webtoons around. It joins the likes of other dark and disturbing webtoons such as Mouse, Dark Hole, and Connect. But Vigilante promises to do beyond what these webtoons have done in the past.
This is also Joo-hyuk's first role in the action genre. To prepare for the role, he consulted with a martial arts team. Seeing him in a violent action series will definitely be a breath of fresh air for his fans.
Hopefully, the K-Drama that Disney+ will air will have watered-down scenes that won't be as gory as the webtoon. This way, those who are watching the series won't be put off by the show's genre.
So How Violent is Vigilante?
The Kdrama series, Vigilante, has been given a content rating of 18+ Restricted for the violence and profanity in the series. There are a lot of fighting scenes with the use of martial arts and weapons that could not be suitable for kids to watch.
