Veteran Batman Producer Says Fans Shouldn’t Judge Robert Pattinson’s Casting Just Yet

There might have been a lot of controversies after word came out that Robert Pattinson was going to be DC's new Dark Knight in Matt Reeve's upcoming The Batman, but veteran Batman film producer asks fans to reserve their judgment against the Twilight star until they finally get to see him as the Caped Crusader.

Speaking with fans at a panel at the CCXP Cologne convention in Germany (via ComicBook.com), Uslan asks everyone to give Pattinson's casting in The Batman a chance. Making a case for the English actor, the producer says that it's better for fans to try to welcome high-profile and controversial castings like this with an open mind.

"The star of the Batman movies is Bruce Wayne. Batman is the star. Batman is who everyone wants to see, along with the supervillains, so how does a filmmaker make the choice of which actor to cast? And I think the real key question for fans, and for all of us to focus on, is the filmmaker," Uslan starts.

According to the producer, there's a reason why Reeves wanted to have Pattinson play the new Batman and fans ought to reserve their judgment until they get to see the filmmaker's The Batman movie.

"My position is this: trust the filmmaker and give the filmmaker, and the filmmaker's vision, the benefit of the doubt. Then wait 'til you see the movie," the producer goes on reasoning, "And then once you see the movie, judge the hell out of it. But I think that's really the formula going forward. I couldn't be happier, I couldn't be more enthused, as a Batman fan, that Matt Reeves is the filmmaker in charge and has selected Robert Pattinson to be his next Batman."

Of course, Uslan makes perfect sense. Fans can't really judge Pattinson's Batman – they haven't seen the actor play Gotham's Dark Knight just yet.

There was also a whole lot of controversy surrounding Ben Affleck's casting as the Caped Crusader before, but then fans fell in love with Batfleck soon after seeing his debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Despite the hiccups in building the DCEU, Batfleck was at times considered one of the most comic book-accurate versions of Batman in terms of physicality and physique.

Maybe fans might feel the same way for Pattinson's version of the Dark Knight when The Batman finally releases.

The Batman premieres June 25, 2021.
