Venom 3 Has Found Its Director

Following the success of the first two Venom films, a third installment is currently underway with Tom Hardy returning to play the titular lethal protector. For the past few months, we haven't heard any major updates on its progress until now as it looks like the film has found the person to helm the next follow-up.

Deadline has confirmed that Kelly Marcel, who wrote and produced the first two films, is set to direct the third Venom film. Prior to her official hiring as the director, she was already attached to the project as the co-writer and co-producer with Hardy just like in her duties on the first two films.

The report indicated that considering Marcel's involvement in the franchise from the very beginning and how she and Hardy were working closely together in developing and mapping out the franchise heading to the third film, she became the prime candidate to take over the directing duties.

So far, there are no plot details yet regarding the story of the third film and whether it will connect with the other Sony's Spider-Man Universe projects or the MCU. There is also no production timeline or release date set at this point.

Marcel will be following in the footsteps of Ruben Fleischer and Andy Serkis, who helmed the first two entries respectively. Prior to her involvement in the franchise, she co-created the short-lived series Terra Nova and wrote Fifty Shades of Grey and Saving Mr. Banks. She also has a story credit in Cruella.

The hiring of Marcel as the director for the film is such an interesting choice. While she is not an experienced filmmaker, she is involved in the franchise from the very beginning so she is familiar with the world and in turn, has the qualifications of helming the character's third solo outing.

Sony has not set a release window yet for Venom 3. You can check more details about it here.
