Venom 2 Producer Teases Andy Serkis' Directing Style, Says He's Like a 'Mystical Figure'

Venom will be getting a sequel after unexpectedly being a box-office success following its premiere. Production seemed to have started for the film since Tom Hardy previously teased it in a behind-the-scenes photo last week, which the actor immediately deleted. With Andy Serkis coming into the movie as its director, producer Matt Tolmach describes what it's like working with him so far.

In a recent interview with Comic Book, Tolmach talked about Serkis's directing style and approach with the film. He claims that Serkis is a "great director." And since he is also an actor and has played "inside monsters," Tolmach thinks Serkis understands the character from the inside.

The producer also shared how well Serkis and Tom Hardy work together for the movie. He said it's "wild" to watch the director with Hardy because they speak a language that "only actors understand." "Particularly, people like Tom Hardy, and what it's like to be in this other character from another realm," he added.

Tolmach claims that Serkis is like a "mystical figure" since you feel some sort of distinct "presence" when he's around people. "He was having Tom do really well," he said. The producer also revealed that they got to know the Black Panther star through Hardy.

It seems like both actors are vibing really well since Tolmach sees their connection as something "great" and "special."

Aside from directing Venom 2, Serkis was recently confirmed to appear in Matt Reeves' The Batman as Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred Pennyworth.

Tolmach is sharing some great stuff regarding Serkis and Hardy, which will really give fans some sort of assurance that this sequel has the potential to be as successful as the first movie.

For now, Venom 2 doesn't have a definite release date. While The Batman is expected to premiere on June 25, 2021.
