Venom: Let There Be Carnage is now out in theaters breaking box office records. But it was a long journey before it got there. It was supposed to be released last year, but it obviously got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, it got pushed to different release dates this year until it finally settled on October 1. Now, we know the actual reason behind the multiple delays.

During an interview with Reelblend Podcast, director Andy Serkis revealed that the reason behind the multiple release date delays of the film has something to do with the completion of the post-production. "I'll be truthful. We finished the last visual effects shot last week," he said. "We've just kept refining, kept refining... It would've been a much poorer movie visually because there was so much to do. You know, the ambition for it was huge, and the time was not really long enough to really execute it."

Serkis explained that the visual effects were done "sprawling across the planet and the animators and the CG artists and the visual effects supervisor, producers, all in different places in the world" as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic where most works were done remotely. In the end, he said that there is a silver lining since they were able to have more time to work on it.

It is true, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been delays in movie productions, especially in post-production. In an effects-heavy film like Venom: Let There Be Carnage, there is a lot of post-production work that has to be done and, with the artists working remotely, it also means that the progress has slowed down than usual. It is very impressive that they were able to accomplish almost the entire post-production work remotely and, given all the success that the film is having now, we can pretty much say that their hard work and efforts were worth it.
