Unused Pokemon Designs From Red and Blue Surface Online

Many thought that Pokemon was going to be another fad and though it's not a worldwide phenomenon anymore, the series is still ridiculously popular and fun. Even the original Game Boy games, Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue, are still easy to pick up and play, so if you're curious to check them out now on the 3DS eShop. While you're checking out an oldie but goodie, fans are going crazy over these unused designs for the two titles.

Twitter user Benisboy revealed some of the unused designs for Game Freak's original 150 Pokemon and, truth be told, some of these monsters look pretty slick. Favorites like Scyther, Lapras, and many more have some designs that are jarring when compared to the versions everyone knows and loves but they still look pretty solid. Scyther, in particular, looks more Dragon-like, though this writer prefers his dinosaur-bug design.

Designing 150 monsters had to be difficult and we can only assume that the job hasn't gotten any easier, with close to 1,000 of these critters. Since there is a new mainline game coming to Nintendo Switch next year, expect Game Freak to break that 1,000 number and maybe reach 1,500 in a few years.

Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue are almost impossible to find on Game Boy unless you look on eBay. The games are available now on the 3DS eShop for about $9.99 each so check em out.
