Tumblr Taken Out Of Apple Store Because Of Child Pornography Issues

Tumblr might be a popular platform for pop culture fans to post stories and artwork inspired by their favorite fandoms and pairings, but it looks like the popular social media app has been taken down from the iOS app store because of Apple's concerns over Child Pornography.

Last week, Tumblr users noticed the site's app being dropped from the iOS App Store, and while the reasons for the shutdown were unclear during the time, Tumblr's team has finally posted a statement.

It seems like the app was taken down over child pornography concerns. While the team claims that Tumblr is committed to "helping build a safe online environment for all users," it looks like some very sensitive and dangerous material was able to slip through their filtering system. An audit performed on the app uncovered content on the platform that contained child sexual abuse material.

"A routine audit discovered content on our platform that had not yet been included in the industry database. We immediately removed this content. Content safeguards are a challenging aspect of operating scaled platforms. We're continuously assessing further steps we can take to improve and there is no higher priority for our team," Tumblr wrote in its statement.

Since the announcement, Tumblr been updating its Apple user to let them know that their development team has been actively working to resolve the issue and get the Tumblr app back into the iOS App Store. Hopefully, the team will be able to guarantee stricter protocols that ensure a safe space for all of its users.
