Toy Story 4 Evel Knievel Lawsuit for Keanu Reeves' Duke Caboom Gets Dismissed

Toy Story 4 was a huge hit in 2019, thanks to a new character named Duke Caboom. However, the toy, which was voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves, also caused a major problem for Disney and Pixar when the estate of Evel Knievel filed a copyright lawsuit against the studios. Interestingly, a new report confirms that the case has now been dismissed.

The final Toy Story movie was released in June 2019 and it had long-time fans of the franchise feeling very nostalgic. In addition to that, fans loved the new characters who were introduced in the film, especially the hyperactive Caboom. However, one person who was not a fan of the toy was Knievel's son Kelly Knievel, who, with K&K Promotions decided to file a lawsuit against the studios in September 2020.

K&K Promotions, who manages Knievel's likeness, claimed that Toy Story 4 made a profit from using the unauthorized likeness of the legendary Canadian daredevil. However, Bloomberg Law confirms that the case against Disney and Pixar has now been dismissed.

According to the report, the ruling at the Nevada federal court concluded that there was not enough evidence to prove the studios confused viewers into thinking Knievel was associated with the film. Additionally, a judge dismissed the idea that Disney and Pixar violated K&K's right to publicity for their intellectual property. It was cited that there were unique changes made to Caboom's depiction.

Toy Story 4 featured the voices of Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, and Tony Hale as Forky.
