Tomb Raider Gets Netflix Anime, MCU Star Hayley Atwell Cast as Lara Croft

It has been a long time since we got any updates on Tomb Raider but it looks like we finally have some awesome news from the franchise. Netflix is finally moving forward with the planned anime based on the Square Enix reboot. The new show has officially added Marvel Cinematic Universe star Hayley Atwell as Lara Croft!

The official Netflix Geeked Twitter account has dropped some updates on upcoming anime projects that the streaming service has been working on. One of the major video game franchises that are getting its own show is Tomb Raider which is being produced by Powerhouse Animation.

The tweet confirms that the new Tomb Raider anime will serve as a sequel to the Square Enix reboot trilogy and will take place after the events in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. In addition to that, it is officially announced that Agent Carter actress Hayley Atwell will provide the voice of Lara Croft.

We're loving the update considering that the anime was first announced back in August 2021 and there hasn't been any news on the project since then. At one point, fans were concerned that the series has been cancelled but it looks like Netflix was simply taking its time to find the right star for the project.

Hayley Atwell's casting is certainly a welcome one although some fans also pointed out that this would have been an awesome gig for longtime Lara Croft voice actor Camilla Luddington. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to hearing Atwell's version of the beloved video game heroine soon.

For now, the Tomb Raider anime has not yet been given an official title nor a release date. However, there is a huge chance we'll be getting a new update before the end of the year. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
