Tom King's Batman Run to End Prematurely?

Tom King's Batman run since the start of DC's Rebirth lineup has been praised by critics and seen as controversial by fans. While King has been praised for exploring new elements with a character who is almost a century old, some felt that he has gone too far to make his comic feel different. It seems like these ideas may have affected sales since there are rumors that King's Batman run will be cut prematurely.

According to Bleeding Cool, King's run will end at Batman #85 instead of the originally planned issue that goes past 100. This comes off the heels of King saying that he had DC and Warner Bros' blessing to change Batman for future generations, which must be really disappointing. While King has yet to confirm the news, he did thank a number of his fans for their kind words.

It seems like his run has been marred with controversy ever since he revealed that Batman attempted to kill himself in his youth, claiming that he was what came after his suicide. The writer also disappointed fans when he didn't follow through with Batman and Catwoman's Wedding, with some feeling like this was the beginning of the downturn for his run.

King's current run is leading up to the big City of Bane event that will be kicked off in Batman #75. This is the culmination of stories he has been building up to since I Am Bane and The Button, though it looks like he had even more plans for the character after this.

No official comments have been made in regards to Tom King's Batman run ending. Hopefully, it has a fitting ending, no matter what happens.
