Tom Hiddleston Admits How Terrified He Was Working On The First Avengers Movie

The Marvel Cinematic Universe might be the most successful comic book movie franchise in Hollywood today, but Marvel stars like Loki actor Tom Hiddleston still can't forget when they were brought into the franchise when the success of Marvel's films still wasn't an instant guarantee the way that it is now.

Speaking with fans during a panel at this year's ACE Comic Con (via ComicBook.com) over the weekend, Hiddleston decided to talk about how much the MCU has grown over the years. Recalling what it was like to play the Asgardian God of Mischief in the very first Avengers team-up movie, the actor admits that it was terrifying to be part of the project because he wasn't sure whether the movie would work at all.

"I remember being terrified making the first Avengers film, because it wasn't a given that it was going to work," Hiddleston told fans. "It only worked based on how hard we worked to make it work if that makes any sense."

The faith and hard work that the cast and crew placed in the Avengers definitely paid off, because the film ultimately became a success, earning $1.519 billion at the global box office during its run in cinemas. Back in 2012 that was a huge sum of money, proving that Marvel knew what it was doing building its superhero franchise.

Now, with three phases in the MCU, Marvel has around 20 movies under its belt and there's more to come. Next year, fans are going to see Captain Marvel, Avengers 4, and of course, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Avengers 4 is set to premiere on May 3, 2019.
