Tokyo Ghoul Getting Live-Action Sequel in 2019

Tokyo Ghoul has become one of the more popular manga/anime properties in recent memory. While the second season of the anime was a wonky mess that no one liked, people still have fond memories of the manga and the third season of the series has essentially ignored what we saw in the previous season. Speaking of second, there is going to be a sequel to the live-action Tokyo Ghoul movie that came out and it's coming in 2019.

With the manga recently concluding, this should please fans who want more Ghoul in their diet. Tentatively called Tokyo Ghoul 2, nothing is known about the sequel at this time, aside from the possible 2019 release date.

ComicBook.com has confirmed that Maika Yamamoto will portray Toka Kirishima in the sequel, and is replacing Fumika Shimuzu. Shu Tsukiyama will also be making his live-action debut, played by Shota Matsuda, and that will make fans very happy. Shu has been friend and foe during the anime, hoping to eat Kaneki for his own perverse reasons.

Unlike Fullmetal Alchemist and Attack on Titan, fans seem to like the Tokyo Ghoul live-action movie. Sure, the gore could have been a bit more explicit and Ken Kaneki was a bit annoying, but fans thought that it was faithful to the source material, which is more than what we can say about other anime adaptations *cough* Death Note *cough.*

Most of the live-action anime adaptations we've seen thus far have either strayed too far from the material or dived too deep into continuity, driving off newcomers. Adapting anime, manga, or even comic books will always be a struggle since filmmakers have to please hardcore fans and regular moviegoers who are curious about it. This has been especially difficult with anime, so the fact that Tokyo Ghoul ended up being decent is nothing short of a miracle.

Created in 2011 by Sui Ishida, Tokyo Ghoul revolves around Ken Kaneki, a normal person who was turned into a Ghoul after a disastrous date with a pretty lady. Thankfully, he has found some shelter with a group of friendly Ghouls in a cafe called Anteiku.
