Todd McFarlane Says His Spawn Reboot Won’t Be An Origin Movie

Todd McFarlane's Spawn reboot movie isn't going to be an origin movie. The comic book creator's been pretty firm about not giving the same story again and again, but McFarlane's recent comments regarding his plans for his Spawn movie go into further detail about his bias against comic book movies that focus on the origin story of the lead character.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, McFarlane was asked whether comic book fans would get to see the backstory of CIA agent Al Simmons in the Spawn Reboot. His reply? A resounding "No."

"Nope. Nope. Nope. I'm not interested in the origin story," MacFarlane told the publication. "I can't do it. I can't do it. I've seen too many movies that spend way too much time for the setup."

According to the comic book creator of everyone's favorite Hellspawn, he's "exhausted by those movies" and just doesn't find them interesting. Instead, McFarlane prefers movies like Jim Krasinski's recent horror movie hit, A Quiet Place, taking note that the film started on the 89th day of the apocalypse in the film.

The Spawn director also references Wolverine, reminding comic book readers that the character became really popular because he was shrouded in mystery during much of his time in Marvel Comics History.

Though some new to the Spawn comic book franchise would probably want some background on the character, there's already been a Spawn movie, and if the narrative is written well enough, the McFarlane's reboot won't need to explain how Al Simmons became Spawn.

The Spawn movie doesn't have a release date just yet but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word.
