Titans Star Brenton Thwaites Reveals How Dick Grayson Embraces Nightwing Persona In Season 2

We've all been waiting for it, and not surprisingly, Brenton Thwaites himself has been hoping to suit up as Nightwing right away in Titans Season 2. However, the star of the DC Universe series has revealed why it's taking so long for Dick Grayson to embrace his new persona.

Thwaites recently spoke to io9 about his character's transformation in Titans Season 2. Interestingly, the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales star explained that Dick needed to go through the emotional turmoil of failing his team before he could truly become somebody else in the show.

"I think Dick transforms at a point in the story when he really needs to. He bit off more than he can chew with asking people to follow his lead and what follows is him coming to terms with the truth of the mistakes that he's made—current and the past. Once he comes out with an understanding of how he really is and who he really is, the Titans are unforgiving. And what happens from there is a journey of self-discovery which we all know leads to Nightwing finally. But it happens from a point of rock bottom," Thwaites said.

He also added that it wasn't his idea to drag out the story for too long since he was eager to become Nightwing right away. Nevertheless, it still worked out pretty well for his character.

"The writers really wanted this plotline to tell a story about an emotional transformation that would lead to Dick needing to become Nightwing. I'm the same as the fans, I wanted to jump into this suit way last season, but I ultimately agreed with dragging this story out. Because when this happens, we as an audience see that it's the last straw. There's no other option, and I think the Titans see that as well. When he transforms and becomes someone else, that's what brings the family back together," Thwaites concluded.

OK, we're not really big fans of waiting but I'm sure it will pay off in the end. Hopefully, we'll get to see Nightwing in action really soon.

Titans Season 2 airs on DC Universe every Friday.
