Legendary singer Tina Turner, dubbed the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll, has died. She was 83.

The American-born Swiss singer started in the business in the late 1950s as a part of Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm.

Come the 1960s, she debuted as Tina Turner and released the hit duet song "A Fool in Love."

The duo Ike & Tina became "one of the most formidable live acts in history" and released the tracks "Proud Mary," "Nutbush City Limits," and more. However, the duo disbanded in 1976.

Turner made a career resurgence in what was dubbed "one of the greatest comebacks in music history" in the 1980s.

She released her multi-platinum album Private Dancer in 1984, featuring the hit song "What's Love Got to Do with It," which won the Grammy's Record of the Year. The song was also her first and only number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100.

At 44, she became the oldest female solo artist to top the Hot 100. From there, she continued to release chart-topping songs.

In 1988, her Break Every Rule World Tour set a Guinness World Record as the largest paying audience, 180,000 people, for a solo performer.

Turner also ventured into acting, appearing in the movies Tommy and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

In 2009, the songwriter retired after completing her Tina!: 50th Anniversary Tour, which became the 15th-highest-grossing tour of the 2000s.

Tina Turner's Honors and Net Worth

Turner nabbed 12 Grammys, three Grammy Hall of Fame awards, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

She was the first black artist and woman to be on the cover of Rolling Stone, which included her in the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.

In 2005, she received the Kennedy Center Honors and Women of the Year award. In her spanning career, Turner amassed a net worth of $250 million.

Tina Turner Dead at 83

Turner died Wednesday, May 24, at her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, her family announced in a statement.

"With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model," a statement posted on the artist's Instagram page read.

"With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow," it continued. "Today, we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly."

Turner was said to suffer from an unrevealed "long illness," per Page Six.
