Marvel Studios artist Andy Park gave fans a treat on Instagram by unveiling his never-before-seen concept art for Thor: The Dark World's main baddies and nope, if you're thinking Malekith, you're absolutely wrong right off the bat.
As the Director of Visual Development for Marvel Studios revealed on the photo-sharing site, the menacing and ultra-terrifying concept art is for the Dark Elves that appeared in the 2013 sequel starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston. Sure, the elves we got in Thor 2, depicted as masked mercenaries were already scary as heck, but the concept art takes everything up a notch and shares an actual resemblance to Malekith. It's a complete contrast to what we ended up getting and boy, it's the stuff of nightmares. Check it out below:
Again, it's a complete shame that they didn't go for that specific character design considering it would've looked so much better alongside Malekith but it is what it is, I guess. Now, speaking of the divisive MCU film, I think we can all agree that Thor: The Dark World is the weakest film in the trilogy and possibly, the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe due to its convoluted plot and unmemorable sequences. It also doesn't help that Malekith was portrayed as an easy villain to vanquish. Thankfully, Taika Waititi jumped into the fray for 2017's Thor: Ragnarok and seemingly rejuvenated the entire Thor franchise, so much so that a fourth sequel has actually been greenlit by Kevin Feige and team. We still don't know what happens in Thor: Love and Thunder but it sure shows a lot of promise and I'm genuinely excited about it.
The God of Thunder himself is also scheduled to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.
