The Witcher Showrunner Leaves Twitter After Ciri Casting Backlash

Twitter has been a toxic environment for celebrities lately, mostly women though men have been affected too. Sadly, it seems like The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich is the latest person from Hollywood to leave the social media platform. Apparently, fans are upset because Witcher supporting character Ciri might be a person of color and we all know that there is a certain group of privileged folk think about representation in the media negatively.

Hissrich didn't say why she would be leaving Twitter for the moment, though the showrunner and writer did reveal that the hate she has gotten recently has been "enlightening." It's sad seeing her leave just because a character might be of color.

What's weird is that the leak might not even be real. Sure, some leaks in the past have bore fruit but not all of them have and seeing Hissrich leave Twitter over something unofficial is really sad to see.

Prior to this, Hissrich did make it clear that there would be minorities in the show and that original Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski supported this. Unfortunately, there is a certain section of social media that hates "forced diversity." When you consider how white these Witcher games are, casting someone of color wouldn't hurt that much. Plus, they already cast white man Henry Cavill as Geralt. You'd think that would be enough but no.

The Witcher is expected to hit Netflix sometime in 2019.
