The Witcher Author is Suing CD Projekt Red For More Money

As fans wait for Netflix's live-action adaptation of The Witcher, fans have various options to entertain themselves. They can either play the excellent video games based on the books or read these pieces of literature themselves from author Andrzej Sapkowski. Fans can also try doing both of those things at different times but that might feel awkward now that Sapkowski is suing Witcher developers CD Projekt Red.

Reported by Eurogamer, Sapkowski wants more royalties than what was initially agreed upon, with CD Projekt Red saying they won't do it while wanting to maintain a relationship with the author. Both parties will attempt to strike a deal but it looks like there is some bad blood between the two for obvious reason.

Interestingly enough, Sapkowski says he was "stupid" for leaving everything in their hands since he didn't know how successful the games would be. While CD Projekt Red did offer him a good percentage of their profits, Sapkowski states that he wants all of the money "owed" to him. It's odd seeing Sapkowski admit that he shouldn't have given them this much freedom with the franchise since he himself did not know that it would be such a success.

"They offered me a percentage of their profits. I said, 'No, there will be no profit at all - give me all mymoneyright now! The whole amount. It was stupid. I was stupid enough to leave everything in their hands because I didn't believe in their success. But who could foresee their success? I couldn't."

Frankly, it sounds like Sapowski is bitter about the game's success, which he does seemingly admit. That being said, these characters are his creations and he probably deserves more money than what was initially agreed upon. Hopefully, the two parties work things out, especially with the Netflix series coming, not to mention the production of Cyberpunk 2077.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The Netflix series starring Henry Cavill is expected to debut sometime next year.
