The Witcher 3 Spinoff Gwent Gets Its Own RPG Spinoff Called Thronebreaker

There were a lot of things people liked about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt but no one expected one of them to be a card game called Gwent. This mini-game had much more depth than most of us expected, to the point that it got its own free-to-play game. Now, the spinoff is getting a spinoff as CD Projekt Red has announced a new card-based RPG called Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.

Unveiled during CD Projekt Red's financial results (via Reddit), Thronebreaker was originally going to be the single-player campaign of the free-to-play Gwent game. However, the studio felt that the campaign was going to be too big and is now planning to separate the release and make it a standalone release.

It is kind of fun seeing a spinoff game get its own, well, spinoff game. Fans might see this as CD Projekt Red being greedy but they did say that the RPG will be 30 hours and have Witcher-like qualities so it can't all be bad. Plus, it's doubtful anyone will complain over more CD Projekt Red games, or at least, more of Gwent.

No release date has been named for Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales has been revealed. Don't expect them to rush this since CD Projekt Red doesn't tend to do that.
