The CW's Supernatural prequel series, The Winchesters, explores the love story between Mary Campbell and John Winchester, the parents of Dean and Sam in Supernatural.
Set in the 1970s, Mary is a hunter on the search for her father, while John has just returned from Vietnam and is seeking answers about his own father.
Alongside their friends Carlos and Latika, the couple eventually join forces and receive help from John's mother and a woman named Ada. The Winchesters maintained its connections to the original series through several familiar guest stars, including Jensen Ackles himself, who reprised his role as Dean.
Major Reveals and the Fate of The Winchesters
As the season progressed, several major reveals came with it. Dean returned, this time to the moment when John returned home from the war, and viewers learn that Dean was the one who gave John the letter.
Bobby reprimands Dean for getting involved, but it's later revealed that Dean had made his way to an alternate universe in which The Winchesters takes place. With Jack's approval, Dean was able to shift the fate of his parents, which was quite bleak in the flagship series.
The season ends with Mary planning to leave Lawrence while John wants to continue hunting.

The End of The Winchesters
Despite its loyal fanbase, The Winchesters was canceled after just one season. Fans were disappointed to learn that the prequel series would not be continuing, especially with the promise of exploring the origins of the beloved Winchester family.
