The Viral Robot Video That's Terrifying Everyone is Fake

If you've been online a lot recently, you've probably seen this video of a human-looking robot walking up the driveway, and it made a lot of people online terrified about the possibility of robot apocalypse. However, you can calm down now. That "robot" was created using computer graphics so it's definitely fake.

Over on Twitter, designer Maxim Sullivan told Gizmodo that he created the video and its background.

"I took the background footage with my phone. Put the character in post. Was just testing an HDRI lighting setup I'd made... And it seems to have gone viral," Sullivan wrote. Sullivan used the Unity video game and animation engine to create the video.

The free-to-download robot model was created by Unity's Swedish demo team for the short film Adam and the animated character also appeared in a web series by District 9 director Neill Blomkamp and Oats Studios using the Unity engine. You can watch Adam below:
