The Suicide Squad Director James Gunn Reacts to James Bond's Original 'Cooler' Name

The name James Bond is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable monikers in pop culture. After all, the British spy is viewed as a cool, clever, and charismatic character. But did you know he originally had a different and "much cooler" name? The Suicide Squad director James Gunn just found out and he has the best reaction to the information.

A fan recently reached out to Gunn on Twitter with a truly interesting trivia about 007. The fan shared a screencap from Empire Magazine revealing that "James Bond" was supposed to be the title of a TV series Ian Fleming was planning. The star of the show would have been "a sexy secret agent named James Gunn." Naturally, Gunn couldn't help but react to the news.

We have to agree that "James Gunn" sounds a lot cooler than "James Bond." Still, it's better off that 007 got stuck with the name since we can easily distinguish the two. (I'm pretty sure that Gunn is just a filmmaker and doesn't moonlight as a secret agent, but you never know these days). On a side note, Gunn assured that his parents didn't know about the trivia when he was given his name as it was originally his father's.

Gunn has just completed production on The Suicide Squad, which is scheduled for release on August 6, 2021. The next James Bond film No Time To Die will premiere on April 10.
