The Simpsons is one of the most popular cartoons ever, and it is about to go full anime as The Simpsons will feature a Death Note tribute for its upcoming Halloween episode.
Specifically, the next Halloween episode of the iconic cartoon was revealed, and it will feature three segments, one of which is entitled Death Tome which is based on the popular anime series, Death Note.
Alongside this anime-inspired segment, there will also be two more parodies, including one for The Babadook and another for Westworld.
The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror
The Simpsons releases Halloween Specials every year entitled Treehouse of Horror. This series began in the second season back in October 1990, and since then, Halloween episodes have been released every year.
The format of each Treehouse of Horror episode has remained unchanged from the beginning.
In case you haven’t seen one yet, each episode is divided into three segments, with each typically being a parody of a popular Halloween-themed movie or series.
Parodies that were done in the past include iconic Halloween films like The Shining, The Fly, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Soylent Green, and more.
Since the specials began, there has now been 32 Treehouse of Horror episodes, not including the ones being released this year.
While there’s one special episode every year, 2022 is a special year as two episodes will be released.
The first one is entitled Treehouse of Horror Presents: 'Not It' and instead of being divided into segments, it is a full episode that parodies Stephen King’s It.
The Simpsons' Death Note Parody
As for the upcoming episode, the Death Note parody is definitely a highlight for anime fans, especially as the show’s art style was changed massively to better match the anime’s look.
Based on the screenshots and the preview that were shared, it seems that in this segment, Lisa will happen upon the Death Tome.
It will function the same way as the Death Note, which means the name of the person written in the book will die.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Death Note is an anime series by Madhouse that’s based on the manga of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.
The series follows Light Yagami who finds the Death Note, a black notebook that can kill anyone whose name is written on it so long as the user knows the person’s name and face.
The next Treehouse of Horror episode will be released on October 30, 2022.
