The Russos Explain Why [SPOILER] Didn't Fight in Avengers: Infinity War Climax

Avengers: Infinity War might have been an emotional roller coaster with explosive battles, but it wasn't without frustrations from fans. While some heroes proved why they were worthy of their mantle, others were boneheaded, annoying, or downright cowardly, the latter of which will be the subject of this topic.

Sure, everyone now hates Star-Lord for letting Thanos escape from the grasp of Mantis and how The Vision, who was one of the most powerful members of Team Iron Man during Civil War, was benched early on by Corvus Glaive. But what about The Hulk?

While he did put up a fight against Thanos early on, he was pummeled into defeat before Heimdall returned him to Earth. Bruce Banner tries to summon him several times but would always get a loud, emphatic no from the jade giant. It seems like Hulk is scared of Thanos and will have to go through his own arc of being the strongest before facing the Mad Titan again.

As to why Bruce was featured more prominently in the film, The Russos had a fairly interesting answer to share on George Washington Campus (via Fansided):

"We have to be careful with the character of Banner. Because if every time he's in trouble Hulk saves him, Hulk becomes the hero and he becomes whiny. We wanted to force Banner to be the hero."

Mark Ruffalo did a pretty good job as Bruce Banner, managing to balance some funny jokes with serious drama throughout the whole film. While his arc wasn't as strong as Thor's or Doctor Strange's, it was still fairly solid. Seeing him get some time on the spotlight with the Hulkbuster was nice, though here's hoping Hulk comes back for round two with Thanos.

Avengers: Infinity War is now showing in theaters. Avengers 4 comes out on May 3, 2019.
