The Russo Would Like To Return To Direct A Marvel Battle Royale After Avengers: Endgame

Joe and Anthony Russo have directed a number of major Marvel movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame.

Despite the number of their critically acclaimed and successful entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Russo brothers aren't slated for any other films after the second installment in their two-part Avengers movie. However, the directorial duo knows what Marvel event they'd like to direct next.

Speaking in an interview with MTV during this year's Cinema Con, the filmmakers were asked which Marvel comic event would they like to work on if ever they came back to the MCU. Their response? The Secret Wars.

"I keep saying Secret Wars cause that was one of the first books that I really fell in love with as a kid... this notion of, event storytelling," Joe Russo said.

According to the director, Secret Wars was one of the main reason why he and his brother have been doing event films for Marvel Studios the past few years.

"I think that's part of the reason that we gravitate so strongly towards these event films and these ensemble films is that the notion that you can contain so many different characters, and so many different points of view, and galvanize them around a story point is really compelling to us," he explained.

For those who aren't familiar with the comic book series, the Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars was a twelve-issue crossover limited series where a cosmic entity called the Beyonder tries to observe the mainstream timeline of the Marvel universe. Finding himself enthralled by the superheroes' presence on Earth, the Beyonder teleports heroes and villains against their will to a place called "Battleworld" a planet the entity creates in a distant galaxy.

Here, the heroes and foes are made to battle against each other in what seems like a Battle Royale for the chance to gain everything that they desire.
