I think we can all agree that DC's San Diego Comic-Con panel left very little to be desired and by comparison has once again been overshadowed by Marvel Studios' colossal presentation at the geek spectacle. However, fans began showing interest in DC's SDCC return after it was rumored days ago that Henry Cavill will be making a surprise appearance at the event to address his Superman future.

WB and DC Films have been conspicuously silent regarding the rumors which only fueled speculation about the British star's potential comeback as the Man of Steel. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's previous statement on social media only added to the speculation after he teased Black Adam's titanic clash with Kal-El.

Well, it turns out that none of the rumors were actually true as Cavill no-showed the SDCC panel. During the Black Adam presentation, Johnson dashed the fandom's collective hopes when it turned out that he himself isn't sure which Superman the Man in Black will end up going head-to-head with.

When asked about the anticipated battle between the longtime comic adversaries (via Brandon Davis of ComicBook), Dwayne simply said: "Depends on who is playing Superman".

Well, it looks like Cavill is truly done with the franchise he helped start almost 10 years ago. As frustrating as it is, I think it's time for the DCEU fandom to finally come to terms with the unfortunate end of his Superman tenure. Again, WB just proved that it doesn't listen to its fanbase and will do things their way despite the franchise's issues and inconsistencies.

Meanwhile, Both versions of Zack Snyder's Justice League are streaming on HBO Max.
