Fox has announced that it has canceled the medical drama The Resident after the show's sixth season. The fate of the series has been in question for some time now, and the network has finally made the decision to end it due to low ratings.

The Resident was created by Amy Holden Jones, Hayley Schore, and Roshan Sethi. The show focused on the daily lives and work of the diverse staff members of the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. With a critical eye into real-life practices of the healthcare industry, the show tackled difficult topics such as hospital bureaucracy, medical ethics, and the challenges that doctors face in their personal lives.

Jones executive produced The Resident with showrunner Andrew Chapman, Rob Corn, Oly Obst, Antoine Fuqua, Marc Halsey, Joy Gregory, and Czuchry. Although the show has come to an end, some of its creatives will remain with Fox. Jones is writing, and executive producing a crime show called "Archie & Pete," which is still in development. Meanwhile, Czuchry is set to join the next season of American Horror Story, which the studio produces.

All six seasons of The Resident are available to stream on Fox.

Although The Resident has come to an end, the show leaves a lasting impact on the medical drama genre. With its critical take on the healthcare industry and engaging storylines, The Resident will be missed by its fans.
