There is little doubt that Billy Russo will still play a major role in The Punisher Season 2. Interestingly, a new motion poster and tense teaser may have revealed the character's eventual transformation into Jigsaw.
The motion poster was shared by the official The Punisher Twitter page. It offers a glimpse at Billy in various stages of his life, from being a soldier to his current broken phase. At one point, we get to see the painted mask he wears in the Season 2 teaser. Check it out below.
There is also a teaser that shows Billy wearing a blank mask. Interestingly, the video reveals that it was actually his therapist Krista Dumont who gave him the idea to paint the mask. Although Billy initially resists the suggestion, he eventually seems to accept it.
Although fans are already expecting Billy to go full Jigsaw in The Punisher Season 2, Ben Barnes insists that his character will not be called by that name. The Westworld actor says that the Jigsaw part actually refers to Billy's brain and doesn't reflect his appearance.
"He's got brain damage and severe issues with his memory," Barnes said. "I won't go into specifics of what he can and cannot remember, but he's trying to piece together what happened to him and who he is. There is a metaphor used, at one point, that his brain is the jigsaw, and they're trying to put the pieces together."
OK, Ben, say what you will. Nevertheless, people believe that Billy will embrace the new persona by the end of the season.
The Punisher Season 2 will mark the return of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. The series will air on Netflix on January 18.
