The Punisher Season 2 Skull Outfit Will Have An “Intelligent, Tactical Reason” Behind It

The second season of The Punisher is making its way to Netflix this month and fans are anticipating the evolution of Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle into everyone's favorite vigilante. While everyone's excited to see Frank finally put on the Punisher's iconic Skull design, Bernthal says that the character's iconic costume is also going to have a "tactical reason" for use.

Speaking with CBR during a set visit, Bernthal decided to weigh in on the iconic costume of the Punisher, explaining why Frank is so attached to the skull icon and what it means to him.

"I mean, it's tough, you know? I just remember last year, there was a whole thing where -- like when he was making the vest -- there was going to be a whole scene with Micro, where they're kind of at the computer, figuring it out, and it was going to be the first time with him in the vest and he was just going to sort of be like drinking tea. I'm like, 'You can't do that, man! It's going to look so frickin' stupid!'" Bernthal told the publication.

While it's only right to see Frank put on the iconic symbol once he turns into the Punisher, Bernthal says that there ought to be a tactical reason for the vest because unlike other characters, Frank isn't as showy.

"To me, I'm really rigorous with the writers that, if he's got to wear it, there's got to be a tactical reason," he explained. "There's got to be something behind it because he's not a flashy guy, you know? He spent Season 2 of Daredevil kind of laughing at Daredevil, like, 'What the fuck is with that costume? Like what's with those ears? What are you doing?' We've got to kind of make that work. I actually feel like this year, when he puts it on, they figured out a very intelligent, very tactical reason. A very psychologically tactical reason to wear it. And I think it makes a lot of sense."

Frank is a very deliberate man. There ought to be a good psychological reason behind the way the character would choose to dress after becoming the Punisher. Hopefully, we'll get to learn more about it once The Punisher season 2 drops on January 18, 2019.
