The OA Won’t Get A Wrap-Up Movie After All

It looks like Netflix isn't interested in producing a wrap-up movie for The OA.

The OA was generally well-received by fans and critics, however, the American mystery drama with science fiction, supernatural, and fantasy elements was canceled by Netflix after its second season on the streaming site. Fans were disappointed, however, everyone held on to the hope that Netflix would give the series some room for closure by producing a wrap-up movie for the show. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be the case.

According to a report by Variety, Netflix won't be producing The OA movie to help wrap up the series' plotlines and cliffhangers. Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij were already negotiating with Netflix so that they could work on a feature-film finale for the series, however, it seems like they came across a major hurdle.

"...the plan for 'The OA' was to run over five seasons, and a two-hour conclusion wouldn't have been sufficient," the news outlet notes in its article.

There are no hopes to take the feature film project to another site either.

"Because Netflix itself is the producer of 'The OA,' another network can't swoop in to rescue the show, as Pop recently did with the Sony-produced 'One Day at a Time.' The cast of 'The OA' have been released from their contracts," the site further reveals.

This means that season 2 really is the end for The OA. This is a really disappointing week for the show's fans. Not only did the series fail to reach season 5 as the showrunners intended, but they'll never get any proper closure either. Such a shame that the story is never really going to find its end.

The OA is streaming on Netflix.
