It seems movies outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe's bubble have made it a habit to use of post-credit scenes to tease possible sequels and plot twists and unsurprisingly, The Nun 2 is no different here.

We all know that The Conjuring franchise is building its own cinematic universe, and with The Nun and The Nun 2 being a part of the prequel story to its original counterpart, it would only seem fair that The Nun series would end here, no?

However, The Nun 2 post-credit scene begged to differ.

You don’t have to wait for the end of the rolling credits to watch the post-credit scene. The Nun 2 only has one post-stinger and it happens in the mid-credits.

Now then, the mid-credit scene, as far as post-credit scenes go, contains a short teaser of where The Nun 2 will be leading The Conjuring franchise next.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed what movie it will lead to, here’s what happened in The Nun 2’s post-credit scene.

The original stars of The Conjuring appeared on-screen, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s Ed and Lorraine Warren staying in their home.

The phone rings and someone shouts for Mr. Warren to pick it up as the call turns out to be for him. Ed Warren takes the phone call, unveiling that Father Gordon (Steve Coulter) was the caller over the line.

The priest is once again asking the Warrens for help. And to make things clearer at how The Nun connects to The Conjuring, this isn’t the first time the Warrens have shown up in The Nun.

In fact, in the first film, the ending included reused footage from the original The Conjuring movie, establishing the intertwined connection between the Warrens and Sister Irene’s stories.

It remains to be seen whether The Nun 2 post-credit scene is leading up to The Nun 3 or The Conjuring 4, both of which are upcoming movies in the franchise.

Except that The Nun 3 has yet to be confirmed and The Conjuring 4 already has a confirmed title, The Conjuring: Last Rites.

Movie Director Michael Chaves recently spoke with CinemaBlend to clear up the ambiguity behind what upcoming movie we should be expecting after witnessing The Nun 2’s post-credit scene:

“That is a great question. I think that there’s an intentional ambiguity there. I think it was really important to just confirm to the audience that we are heading towards that exorcism — the exorcism is something that looms large for fans of this franchise. So, it was definitely something that was important to do for that. It also could, in its own way, play as a tease for Last Rites, which would be the final installment of the Conjuring franchise — not franchise, but just the main Conjuring series.”

Considering that Chaves backpedaled on his statement of ending the Conjuring series with The Conjuring 4, there’s a probable chance that The Nun 3 could be coming to their blueprints soon enough.

However, as nothing has been confirmed yet, you can watch the official trailer for The Nun 2 below:
