The Next Pokémon Movie Will Remake Mewtwo Strikes Back

Pokemon: The Movie - Everyone's Story has screened in Japan and though the critical reception isn't known yet, fans did confirm that a teaser for the next Pokemon film was shown after. Apparently, the teaser shows bubbles rising on the screen and ends with a CGI shot of Mewtwo. This confirms that we're getting a remake of Mewtwo Strikes Back, which will reportedly be called Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution.

Since the teaser came after Everyone's Story, there's a good chance that this remake will be set in the same universe. This is separate from the anime's continuity, giving Ash the chance to interact with newer characters and meet new Pokemon. Unfortunately, it has not lead to Ash aging in the anime, which is still annoying.

Mewtwo Strikes Back, called Pokemon the First Movie in the US, has a special place in most people's hearts. Seeing Ash, Misty, and Brock take on Mewtwo and his Pokemon clones did make for an interesting animated film, even if the ending was cheesy. It was also gratifying for those that played the games since Mewtwo was portrayed as ridiculously powerful.

Pokemon: The Movie - Everyone's Story is now showing in Japan, with no US release date yet. Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution currently has no release date.
