20th Century Fox's Dark Phoenix had quite a poor performance in the box office and grossed lower than any other movie in the X-Men franchise. That said, it looks like the film's dismal performance made The New Mutants director Josh Boone confident about his movie.
In a recent interview with Empire (via Digital Spy), Boone admits that he doesn't feel any pressure for his film and even took a jab at Dark Phoenix. "Look, you can only go up after Dark Phoenix," he said. "That's not to say anything bad about the people involved, but it was what it was. Honestly, I feel less pressure now that I did ahead of [the first stated release date]." This is because they have tested the film "so many times" and Boone reveals that the audience loves it.
Dark Phoenix earned $246.3 million worldwide and is currently holding a 23% Rotten Tomatoes score. Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, the film made a poor performance, but fans are very much looking forward to Boone's film.
That said, The New Mutants has faced a lot of setbacks prior to its release. The movie was initially meant to be released back in 2018 and was delayed because of the Disney-Fox merger. The most recent release date is April 3 but New Mutants was delayed once again because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Boone's movie doesn't have a new official release date yet but the director seems confident about The New Mutants which ought to make the fans look forward to his work.
