Brie Larson Remains Skeptical on Johnny Depp’s Controversial Hollywood Return

The Captain Marvel star Brie Larson is skeptical of Johnny Depp’s controversial return to Hollywood as he makes it back to the big screens on the opening night of Cannes Film Festival in Jeanne du Barry.

Johnny Depp may have settled the lawsuit against his long-running reputation of being a domestic abuser, allegations that came directly from his own former wife, Amber Heard, however, is Hollywood willing to take the acclaimed actor back?

As Amber Heard reportedly quits Hollywood over the backlash she had received after the court ruling over her case with Depp, the latter is attempting to reclaim his position back in his career.

When being pressed about Depp’s current circumstance, The Marvels star Brie Larson bluntly responds to reporters, unsure as to why she would be the ‘best’ prospect to hear opinions regarding the matter.

“You’re asking me that? Um, I’m sorry, I don’t understand the correlation of why me specifically,” Larson said during the Cannes Film Festival jury press conference (via Deadline).

In Jeanne du Barry, Depp plays Louis XV in a French-speaking role. Despite what you think, his shoes don’t necessarily fit enough to lead the film, rather he had 10 minutes of screen time in the film.

When asked if the actress plans on seeing Depp’s new movie, The Room Oscar winner added discreetly, “I’ll see it when I see it. I don’t know how I feel about it frankly.”

It looks like it’ll take years before the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial dials down in Hollywood, especially since the trial only happened last year.

However, it is worth noting that Larson’s statement should not be taken to heart, considering she had a point: why, of all people, was she the one being interrogated about Depp’s career standing?

Either way, this is not the first time Larson has faced problems with Hollywood.

In fact, initial reports about The Marvels implied she was the issue that kept hindering the Captain Marvel sequel from moving forward.

This was later debunked to not be true, considering the actress has been getting along so well with her co-stars on set.

Meanwhile, Brie Larson reprises her role as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel in The Marvels, slated to premiere in theaters on November 10, 2023.
