The Mandalorian's third season marked the return of Simon Kassianides' character Axe Woves, a member of Clan Kryze who served as Bo-Katan Kryze's righthand man in Season 2.

The character was given an upgraded role in Season 3, serving as the de facto leader of the "privateers", a group of Mandalorian mercenaries operating on the planet Plazir-15.

At one point in the series, it was even speculated by fans that Woves was the Mandalorian traitor who was working closely with Moff Gideon. It turns out that Lucasfilm had no plans to keep the character in the MandoVerse and according to new information shared by Katee Sackhoff, the Axe Woves character wasn't meant to stick around.

Speaking with Kristian Harloff, the Bo-Katan actor revealed that original plans called for Axe to die in the series as early as Season 2. In fact, they apparently shot a scene that would've seen the Nite Owls member die a heroic death but plans were ultimately scrapped.

She shared: "Axe, you know, we knew he was supposed to die last year. That was the thing that no one could talk about. There was this moment where he sacrifices himself in that episode. We shot it. In Season 2."

Sackhoff added: "And then they were like, 'It needs to be Din. Not him.' So then you shoot a person's death and then they take it out and then there's still a scene left and then everyone's like, where'd they go?"

Fortunately for Kassianides, the show's creatives had a change of heart and he was given a more prominent role in the third season. Now, whether or not Axe transforms into a more significant character in future seasons remains to be seen but I think we can all agree that he has the potential to be a key player.

All episodes of The Mandalorian Season 3 are available to stream on Disney+.
