The Mandalorian Season 3 may have been extremely polarizing but you can't deny that it still delivered on its promise of exploring Mandalore and bringing the civilization back to its former glory.

The third season was mainly centered on Bo-Katan Kryze's ascension to the Mandalore throne, something that even the show's critics can agree is long overdue.

She even regains possession of the Darksaber over the course of the season. Shockingly enough, she wouldn't hold on to it for long as the mythical weapon was destroyed by Moff Gideon during the finale.

In an interview on the Steve Varley Show, Katee Sackhoff revealed that the show always called for the Darksaber's demise. Admittedly though, she wasn't exactly a fan of the idea at first but the weapon's destruction made sense storywise as it would have given all tribes a clean slate.

Sackhoff said: "So, I think that Bo and the Mandalorian people have been fixated on, for lack of a better word, a trinket. That they've lost sight of - she's lost sight of what really matters to her people and for her people."

"So I think she's distracted by it because I think that the Mandalorian people were distracted by it. So I think that, you know, sadly, the destruction of it will potentially put things right, I guess, if you will."

She continued: "It was always the plan [Darksaber getting destroyed]. It was in the script, so we knew it was happening, and I think I was a little like, 'I'm sorry, you're doing what?' But it's one of those things where I think in order for Bo and the Mandalorians to have a fresh start, the right leader has to be leading no matter what they possess, you know what I mean?"

While it would've been cool to see more Darksaber action in the show, its destruction ultimately paved the way for Mandalore to be taken back by its rightful people.

All three seasons of The Mandalorian are available to stream on Disney+.
