After over two years, The Mandalorian has finally addressed the situation surrounding Cara Dune's future. Season 3's premiere episode explained what happened to the character following the previous season's events and while it did leave the door wide open for her to return down the line, it seems like the show is already positioning someone else in the role she was meant to play.

Of course, most of you are well aware by now that Gina Carano's streak of controversies on social media led to her unceremonious firing from Disney. For years, Cara's fate has been shrouded in mystery and while Lucasfilm has kept the character's status unaddressed prior to Season 3, Rangers of the New Republic, a standalone series that would have been led by Carano was already confirmed.

It was later revealed that the supposed project was no longer moving forward but seeing as Cara is still canonically alive in the MandoVerse, fans are hopeful that we'll still get to see her appear in future seasons of The Mandalorian. For now though, it looks like Lucasfilm has shifted its focus on the character's potential replacement and it could very well be Captain Carson Teva.

Chapter 21 marked the return of the character, played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and fans noticed right off the bat that he's been given a more substantial role compared to his previous outings. Star Wars geek and YouTuber @Ky1eKatarn even suspects that he's fulfilling the role Gina Carano was meant to play in the MandoVerse.

Interestingly, Teva was also the same person who offered Dune a place in the New Republic after learning that she was once a soldier for the Alliance. However, Cara declined the offer as she was appointed Nevarro's City Marshal.

Now, does this mean there's a chance for Rangers of the New Republic to be brought back into the slate of upcoming projects? Probably not but Teva's upgraded role could open a ton of possibilities.

The sixth episode of The Mandalorian Season 3 will hit Disney+ on Wednesday, April 5th.
