The Mandalorian: Giancarlo Esposito Teases Moff Gideon's Next Appearance

After two years of waiting for the third season of The Mandalorian, fans are beginning to think that it’s not worth the wait at all, as the Star Wars show currently stands with low viewership after the airing of a few episodes. The fandom also has divided sentiments over the show’s sudden shift to one of its supporting characters, Bo-Katan Kryze, instead of its lead heroes, Din Djarin and Grogu. As the show goes on, fans are also anticipating Giancarlo Esposito’s villain, Moff Gideon, to make his return.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actor was asked if and when he will return as Moff Gideon in the show's ongoing third season. Esposito previously said that his big bad would flee the New Republic long before this latest batch of episodes was broadcast. Despite not giving a definite answer, it appears that Gideon will be seen very soon.

“The odds are good you’re going to see me soon. That’s all I can say,” he said. “The show is just a fantastic show to be on. They want the audience to be in anticipation and wonder, joy, and excitement. And so, I did it so long ago that I got to be honest with you, I can't even remember. I don't remember when I’m on.”

Esposito answered whether he remembered what happened to Gideon since the last time fans saw him, saying: “I sure do. I was in the hoosegow [prison] or on the way there...locked up and shuttered, which gives me a lot of time to think and to calculate what my next move might be.”

Kimmel then bluntly asked the Breaking Bad star, “So you’ve been plotting and preparing for this next comeback? Which is going to happen next Wednesday, right?” the actor replied, “It will. Ah ha! I see what you did there.”

Gideon's next appearance has been mentioned and teased in the first four episodes of the latest season. Gideon was taken into the custody of the New Republic after the season 2 finale, as confirmed by Din Djarin and Magistrate Greef Karga. However, Imperial officials in the New Republic amnesty program addressed the rumors that Gideon had escaped on his way to his war tribunal.

New episodes of The Mandalorian stream Wednesdays on Disney+.
