The Mandalorian has established Bo-Katan Kryze as the chosen one to unite all Mandalorian tribes and bring Mandalore back to its former glory. Regaining possession of the Darksaber, Bo-Katan's ascension to the throne seems imminent but we still don't know how she lost the weapon in the first place.
In Season 2, it was revealed that Kryze was the last wielder of the blade before Moff Gideon took it but we never learned how the cunning villain was able to wield it, except for the assumption that he beat Bo-Katan in battle, something Gideon himself explained to Mando when he tried surrendering the Darksaber.
Well, it turns out that Gideon got the blade in a similar fashion to how Bo-Katan received it. You see, Bo-Katan was gifted the Darksaber by Sabine Wren in Star Wars Rebels and it turns out, she also handed the weapon over to Gideon years later but she had a pretty good reason for doing so. At least that's what she thought.
Bo-Katan explains in Chapter 23, titled "The Spies" that Gideon possessed the Darksaber after promising her that the Empire will spare Mandalore and its people. She reveals that Gideon betrayed him and it led to the civilization's downfall during the Purge of Mandalore. While she didn't want to trust him, Bo-Katan thought it was their only chance at salvation.

Now, it's crystal clear why Bo-Katan has been hell-bent on exacting revenge against Moff Gideon. However, he clearly has the upper hand now with the abduction of Din Djarin and the impending re-emergence of the Imperial forces. Chapter 24 is shaping up to be something monumental.
