The Mandalorian may have just solidified that the Cara Dune character no longer has a place in the Star Wars universe. Over the last two years, the status of the fan-favorite Alderaanian has been shrouded in intrigue after actress Gina Carano was unceremoniously ousted from the franchise.
Season 3's premiere episode quickly addressed her status, revealing that Dune has left Nevarro to work with the New Republic's special forces, leaving the planet led by High Magistrate Greef Karga without a marshal. In the same episode, Din Djarin was offered the position but declined for obvious reasons.

While the series seemed to have left the door wide open for a potential Cara Dune comeback down the line, Chapter 24 pretty much confirmed that she has been replaced as Nevarro's reinforcement.
In the finale, titled "The Return", Mando and Grogu left Mandalore to return to Nevarro and gifted Karga will a newly repaired IG-11. It was then revealed that the former assassin droid who also briefly served as Grogu's vehicle will now operate as the planet's official marshal replacing Dune.

It remains unclear if the MandoVerse will completely ignore Dune's existence in future seasons (assuming we're actually getting a fifth one) but I wouldn't be surprised if Cara never gets mentioned again.
Meanwhile, Carano has come to terms with her Star Wars fate, saying: "It was an honor to play Cara Dune, she will always have a special place in my heart".
